winter break recap part one

I got out of school on the 16th and it has been the most glorious break, but it's gone so fast!  I can't believe Christmas Eve was almost a week ago. At the same time it feels like it's been years since I thought about school, which has been really great.
We have done so much on Christmas break! We balanced relaxing and doing fun things, it's been really great.
One day we ate at Red Iguana and they had this HUGE wreath!

We made gingerbread houses and mine was such a disaster! I couldn't get it to stay up. So this is Marks, mine was too ugly to photograph

My Mom had some free tickets to Hale theater so she let us use them to see A Christmas Carol. I went almost every year growing up! I also worked at a ticket office for 5 years in college so I have a connection every time I go to live performances like this.

Mark and I tried to take a picture by this huge tree in the lobby because no one looked interested in taking it for us, but as you can see they were all major failures.

Christmas Eve! I am wearing Lipsense in this picture. The color is called Brick and it is sandwiched between icicle, a clear LipSense color.
If we're being honest, Christmas Eve was not great! I tend to forget that my family is imperfect. My expectation vs reality thoughts are always so skewed when it comes to holidays and every year, I forget! So I ended the night in tears on the couch eating junk food. Christmas day made up for it, though.

I love, love, love having "Me" days. I have spent my whole life thinking I was an extrovert only to realize in the past few years that I am an outgoing introvert. I just get so much energy off hanging out by myself. I feel like the worst wife sometimes when I am like "Me day! Bye!" but it's necessary or I turn into a monster.
A few days after Christmas I took off to the mall for some me time. I bought the jacket I am wearing (but not the shirt underneath, #unflattering)  and when I brought it home to show Mark the first thing he said was "Ed Hardy!" and I was like "NOOOO!" so, internet, should I return the jacket? It's from stupid F21 and I hate their exchange policy, but I could probably find something cute instead. I'm at a loss! I just wanted a cute embroidered bomber but instead I got Ed Hardy. Ugh.

We saw yet another movie! Moonlight! It was so different than I thought. We actively avoid trailers at our house, and all I saw when I looked up the times was "child soldier" so obviously my white idiotic self thought it would be about Ghana child soldiers and it is NOT.
It's also very much R rated, so ya know, be advised.
Also a word about the Tower theater in SLC, it sucks.

Okay, I need to preface these next few pictures.
Mark loves to cook and so I got him two cookbooks for Christmas, which he immediately read and meal planned our week. On Wednesday, Mark woke up early and spent 10 hours cooking ramen noodle broth and pork buns. I sat on the couch and read not one but two books and then binged an entire season of Great Food Truck Race.
This was the ramen he made with the 10 hour broth.

He put normal pork in it because I hate pork belly in ramen.

However, I did love the pork belly in these little bbq pork sandwiches. So tasty!

and we'll close it out with this huge tray of pork shoulder that sat in the ramen broth for 6 hours.

Happy New Years! We are going to a Jazz game tomorrow and then I have to face the reality of going back to work. Wish me luck!

blog survey

Hi friends!
I have some exciting things planned for 2017 hobby wise. I am starting an education blog to document all my lesson plans and stuff, I'm super excited about to be able to show my passion in this way! I also have been playing around with the idea of starting an education podcast. That one makes me nervous because I'm not quite sure what I would say, but there is almost no good education podcasts out there and it's a shame! There is so much to talk about.

Anyway, all that being said, I'm interested to see what happens with this blog. This year I haven't taken it as "seriously" as I took it in 2015, meaning I haven't really reached out to companies or looked at numbers, I haven't been actively trying to grow as much. It's actually been great, to be honest. At the start 2016 I returned to my blogging roots, I blog because I like it. I collab with certain companies that I love and I deny the ones I do not. I love and value the friendships I have made because of blogging. This started as a place for me to practice writing and document my life, and I really came back to that in 2016. So this year has been really nice, I hop on when I want and don't feel the need to apologize for my absences or anything like that. I've worked with some amazing companies this year and also documented my life! I have written some things I'm proud of, and have a ton more in drafts that I'm working up the courage to publish. So, 2017, hopefully I hit that button.

All that to say, I have some questions for you! If you could fill out this short survey, that would help me immensely to get a sense of things. It should take about a minute.

Christmas 2016

Christmas 2016! Done!
It's bittersweet that Christmas is over. I love the time leading up to Christmas but I'm also really happy not to keep secrets anymore. I'm not good at it! I actually spoiled Mark's big present this year because I just couldn't hold it in. So I'm glad not to have the pressure anymore. Haha!
Christmas morning we took it easy, sleeping in (Mark) (I can't sleep in to save my life) and making a Waffle Luv inspired breakfast. While we were cooking we opened our stockings. I got Mark a few little Star Wars things and the biggest pack of Dots I've ever seen. Mark got me my favorite, Smores cereal and Salsa Con Queso. Yummy x 10.
After breakfast, we opened presents. I was so excited to give Mark his gifts and this year I had absolutely no idea what Mark was getting me so I was really excited to open my presents from him. He got me a letter board (basic life! Woo hoo!), a gel nail light, a Funko Pop of Judy Hopps and....AN ELECTRIC BLANKET! Which you guys, it's already changed my life. I don't know how I lived in Logan for so long without one, lived in a basement apartment for so long without one, basically just lived my life without one! I turned on my electric blanket, cuddled up under it and immediately was so cozy I fell asleep.

I got Mark a life-sized BB8 (that was the thing I spoiled :(), a R2-D2 model for his nerd room, a Metallica shirt, two cookbooks and some cooking supplies.

After we had our Christmas, we went to Mark's parents first and had a delicious Christmas lunch filled with yummy Japanese food. We had a Christmas there as well! Every year they get us a book so we have been building our collection that way. Mark got a food processor! This is really exciting, we have been kicking ourselves for not asking for one when we got married so we finally got one. I also got Anastasia Brow Wiz from my SIL and I'm so excited!

After Mark's parents we went to my family for more presents and some dinner.
Mark and I were both feeling crappy from all the junk food we ate and so we went home and watched Hunt for the Wilderpeople. It was super cute, highly recommend. Then we went to bed! It's crazy how much the holidays wears you out.
I love the coziness our tree brings, I'll be so sad when we take it down! Next year it's going up earlier.

Where's the cat?

Mark's stocking

BISCOFF!

Haha, my letter board never came in the mail before Christmas so Mark had to figure it out.

So it was a simple day but a great one!
I have one more week of break, which will go so fast. I haven't checked my email since I left school on the 16th and I'm really proud of myself. I will probably grade on Sunday or Monday and check it then, but for now, no way! Not thinking about school at all.
Have a good week!

weekend recap///2

I did so good with my goal of taking pictures this weekend! If you remember a few posts back, it was my goal to get better at documenting our life! Though I did annoy a few people in the process, oh well!

We saw three movies this weekend, which is about one more than normal for us. I have seen over 120 movies this year, Mark has seen about 200. We just love love love movies. Anyway, this weekend we saw Rogue One, Manchester By the Sea and La La Land. All really good!
At Rogue One!

Ever since we watched Santa Clause we have been craving Denny's. AN AMERICAN INSTITUTION!

I took a lot of selfies this weekend...mainly because I just love my LipSense. (Follow my page Luscious Lips on FB if you're interested in purchasing)

We went to a Christmas party with our closest friends on Friday! Instead of a white elephant we decided to do a Secret Santa. We didn't really do a super great job at keeping it a secret, I knew who mostly everyone had before the party....anyway, next year we will do a better job. I played Mom and made everyone take a picture with their gifts and I wanted to get a group picture, but alas....the jazz game took over.

Hilarie had me, which I knew because she was being so secretive about who she had and I knew that was so unlike her!

Look at how cute Mark is! He got a Star Wars game!

I had Nate and I almost spoiled it so many times! I also realized...no matter how best of friends you are, boys are hard to buy for.

Kyler got Dirk a huge machete. It was so weird and awesome haha

As cliche as it is, our friends have really become our family. It will be the hardest thing in the world to leave them if/when we move out of Utah. I'm so thankful for them always.

Excited for two full weeks off for my Christmas break! I'm struggling to find some good Christmas activities that we can do. I hate ice skating, seeing the lights and gingerbread house making is kind of lame, but it seems like those are the only activities that don't cost a ton. Any suggestions?

graduation (and our Christmas card pics!)

Mark is officially done with school! Oh hallelujah. Mark started college the same year that I did (2009) and yes, took two years off for a LDS mission and then another year off to put me through student teaching, but still a long time! Don't even get me started about credits transferring or not transferring. DO NOT even get me started. BUT! We can officially put all that behind us and celebrate! Mark has felt he can't really celebrate until he finds a job, so if anyone knows of any openings in the PR/Marketing field...hit Mark up, through me if necessary! :)

Anyway, thanks to our friends Leah and Stephen for doing a photo swap with us for these pictures! We went to this little Christmas Tree place and they people tolerated us...which was nice. I also saw a student from last year who was so cute and nice, but I couldn't remember their name! I knew what letter it started with but it wasn't until like five minutes later that it popped into my head, I felt so dumb!

Mark and I were laughing that these are basically our engagement pictures, plus 50 lbs for both of us. Haha! Anyway, I got my dress from eshakti, as I always do. This dress is my favorite that I have gotten from them because it's a really comfy jersey material.

I'm hopefully going to pull off a surprise for Mark for graduation this weekend, he doesn't really read my blog so I think I'm safe with you friends.
Off to a Christmas party with our closest friends! Stay tuned.
